The ruling Awami League (AL) has claimed jailed BNP chief Khaleda Zia is not eligible to contest the upcoming national election as per the laws.
“According to the existing laws of the country Khaleda Zia cannot contest polls, nor can she engage in politics”, AL Joint General Secretary Abdul Rahman said on Tuesday (Dec 12).
Speaking at a media briefing at the party’s Dhanmondi office, Rahman said, “BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told the nation in tears that they won’t contest the polls without Khaleda.
“Because they knew that she (Khaleda) is convicted on corruption and money embezzlement charges in light of the laws no matter how hard the BNP voices for her releases,” he said.
