Cables to start AL's polls campaign on Thursday FILE PHOTOAs part of a strategy to woo voters, the ruling Awami League will involve a host of celebrities in its campaign for the 11th Parliamentary Election slated for Dec 30.
The campaign will kick off in Dhaka on Thursday (Dec 13), which the party was set to begin on Tuesday (Dec 11).
Flanked by the celebrities, AL’s election campaign committee will start distributing leaflets in front of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) at 11am, said the party’s Publicity Secretary Hasan Mahmud.
A host of actors and singers have vowed to campaign for ‘boat’, the electoral symbol of AL.
Jahid Hasan, his wife Sadia Islam Mou, Shami Kaisar, Afsana Mimi, Tanvin Sweety, Ferdous, Riaz, Shakil Khan, and Aruna Biswas, among others, are expected to campaign for AL.
Meanwhile, incumbent AL lawmaker and folk singer Mumtaz has prepared the party’s campaign songs.
Mumtaz’s songs are available on CD to be used by the party leaders and activists on campaign purpose across Bangladesh.
According to sources at AL’s election campaign committee, the TV stars will share videos through social media platforms including Facebook.
The videos will showcase AL’s contributions to developing Bangladesh over the last ten years focusing on the Padma Bridge.
 The video contents contain messages from media personalities such as Hasan Imam, Tareque Anam Khan and few others.
Meanwhile, on Monday, AL Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak said Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Hasina will begin her election campaign from Gopalganj on Wednesday (Dec 12).
Hasina will leave Dhaka for Tungipara of Gopalganj by road from her official Ganabhaban residence at 8am.
She will place wreath at the grave of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, followed by addressing two public rallies in Tungipara and Kotalipara, said Nanak.
