BNP HQ lockdown ends with ultimatum

The supporters of BNP International Affairs Secretary Ehsanul Haque Milon have unlocked the front gates of BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan after a two-and-half hour lock down.

The gates were unlocked with a 12 hour ultimatum that Milon be declared the BNP candidate in the Chandpur-1 constituency instead of Md Mosharraf Hossain who bagged the nomination this time.

On (Dec 8), Milon’s supporters locked the front gates of the party offices with Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and few other BNP leaders stuck inside.

“We have spoken to the joint secretary general and he has assured us,” said Alauddin, Organizing Secretary of Jubadal’s Chandpur unit.

“We have demanded that Milon be given nomination within 12 hours. Otherwise we will lock down the chairperson’s Gulshan office in addition to the Paltan office,” he added.

Rizvi however, declined to make any comments on the matter.

Milon’s supporters which consists of BNP, Jubodal and the party’s student wing Chatra League leaders say that Milon has maintained connections with BNP leaders in Chandpur, while the current candidate has no popularity with the common people.

“Mosharraf Hossain has been fraternizing with Awami League and has subjected the party leaders to abuse over the last 10 years,” said Gazi Mohammad Rommel, General Secretary of Milon Friend club.

“He has been given nomination to give AL the upper hand, which we cannot tolerate at any cost,” he added.

Milon, a former state minister during BNP administration, was an aspirant for the Chandpur-1 constituency. However, this time the party’s Executive Committee member and BNP’s Malaysia unit President Mosharraf Hossain has been picked to contest the polls in that seat.
