Khaleda will be cleared for polls if justice’s ensured: BNPThe BNP has thanked the Election Commission for “ensuring justice” as most of its candidates secured a decision their favours after challenging the returning officers’ decision trashing their nominations.
“Party chief Khaleda Zia will also be cleared for the polls if justice is ensured,” Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told the media at the party chief’s Gulshan offices on Thursday (Dec 6), when the Commission started disposing of appeals filed by aspirants across the country.
He said the returning Officers declared illegal the nominations of many of BNP candidates but most of them were considered as legal runners through the Commission’s hearing. “We thank the Election Commission.”
Responding to a query, Mirza Fakhrul said they are likely to announce a partial list of their final candidates for different constituencies later on Thursday.
He alleged that the government, being afraid of defeat, is now using state machineries to influence the election.
The BNP leader also alleged that law enforcers continued the arrest of their leaders and activists hampering their organisational activities.
He urged the government and the Election Commission to stop arresting opposition activists and create a proper election atmosphere so that all the parties can exercise their democratic rights.
