BNP Vice-Chairman Abdullah Al Noman has said that he doesn’t see any signs to indicate that the upcoming 11th parliamentary polls will be free and fair.

His comments came on Saturday (Nov 17) after BNP leaders paid respects at the resting place of Maulana Bhasani on the 42nd death anniversary of the famous leader, who is known for his lifelong fight for commoners’ rights.

Reiterating their calls to the government and the Election Commission (EC) to ensure free and fair polls, Noman said, “We are vowing to re-establish democracy in the country.”

He also alleged that the ruling Awami League is hatching plots to keep the BNP away from the election and said that they won’t stay away from polls rather they want to take part in it with their party chief Khaleda Zia, who is currently serving a 10 year jail-term at the old Dhaka prison after being convicted in a graft case.

“The upcoming parliamentary election in the election to solve the masses’ problems,” he said before adding, “Oikya Front is the result of grassroots people’s struggle.”

On the recent Nayapaltan clash and burning of police vehicles, Noman said, “We didn’t set fire to vehicles, yet we are being blamed.”

“The government wants to intimidate masses so that they choose not to vote on polls day,” alleged Noman.
