All communal forces are now under the BNP’s electoral symbol ‘paddy sheaf’, said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader while talking to the media on Friday (Nov 16) at the Awami League chief’s Dhanmondi offices.

Quader said, “Those who were under the guise of democracy all this time, are nothing but imposters.”

They talked about liberation war but in reality have sided with the sectarian forces to rise to power, he observed.

“All of these are evil communal forces and our fight is against them,” added Quader.

On BNP’s allegations about AL using the EC to their advantage, he said, “They have become careless. They know that they are at the bottom of the popularity chain. Hence they are saying these things out of despair.”

When asked about the arrest of BNP activists and leader after the polls schedule announcement and BNP constant complains of not having a level, the minister said, “They expect to get away with torching cars, injuring policemen and inciting violence without any consequences?”

“It’s a criminal offence! An act of violence!  Is it a crime to arrest criminals?” he lashed out.

Quader further said that police are refraining from any kind of interference to maintain the polls atmosphere, adding, “BNP should not mistake our patience for weakness.”

He said that by attacking the police BNP has proved what the Canadian court said about them.

“They wish to continue their path of violence. They know that the people are against them and hence they are resorting to violence.”

On the upcoming polls, Quader said, “We are almost done with the preparations of our polls.”

“We carried out a survey and AL is leading in the poll. We will be finalizing the nominations within a few days and divide constituencies with our allies.”

Saying that the party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very popular with the people, Quader added, “We are confident that we will win the polls.”
