Nomination form sale fetches AL Tk 127 millionThe Awami League (AL) has netted nearly Tk 127 million by selling nomination forms to the party’s ticket seekers for the 11th Parliamentary Election.
A little over 4,000 aspirants collected forms in the four days, Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif told the media on Monday (Nov 12), when the sale ended.
The party started selling the forms on Friday (Nov 9) at Tk 30,000 apiece a day after the Election Commission announced the schedule of the Dec 23 election. The Commission pushed back the polls to Dec 30 on Monday.
In the four days, 4,023 Awami League ticket seekers bough the forms, which means a collection of Tk 126.90 million.
Speaking at a media call at the party chief’s Dhanmondi offices, Hanif apologised to the people for the traffic congestion caused as thousands of aspirants from across the country travelled to Dhaka.
“We apologise for the haywire traffic over the four days. In future, we will try to avoid it.”
The deadline for submitting the forms has been extended to Tuesday, he said.
“We hope to publish the full list (of nominated candidates) two to three days ahead of Nov 28 (the Election Commission’s deadline to file nominations),” said the Awami League joint general secretary.
