Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader. FILE PHOTOAwami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that the ruling party has no objection if the polls schedule is deferred in agreement with all the political parties.
His remarks came at a media briefing at Awami League chief’s Dhanmondi office on Sunday (Nov 11).
“Awami League has no objection if polls schedule is rescheduled. But it should be done upon discussion with all concerned parties. The Election Commission has to take a pragmatic decision over the matter, not under pressure from any political parties.”
He also said, “There are 15-16 aspiring candidates in every seat for Awami League for the coming national polls which reflect the beauty of the party’s internal democracy.
“Anyone can buy nomination papers but if anyone goes against the party’s selected candidate then he will be expelled for life,” he added.
Commenting over Cricketer Shakib Al Hasan’s political entrance, Quader said, “He is not starting his political career now as he is still playing in the national team.”
“Cricketer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will contest in the coming election,” he said.
