’80 percent of young voters despise politics’

CallReady media callNearly 80 percent of the young voters despise politics, claims a recent survey by research and communication strategy development organization ‘CallReady’.
However, nearly 51.3 percent of the nearly 1,200 respondents want the incumbent government in office again, it said.
The results of the survey were launched at a media call on Saturday (Nov 10).
CallReady researcher Dr Abul Hasnat Milton said, 1,186 students from 33 universities were interviewed which was carried out to get a measure of what the younger generation thinks about 11th Parliamentary Elections.
According to the organization, there are about 8 to 10 million young voters in Bangladesh. Among them 30.2percent don’t want the current government to win the polls and 18.5percent are yet to make a decision about their franchise.

The study also shows that 68.3 percent of the participants find Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s administration satisfactory, while 53.5 percent believe that the upcoming polls will be fair.

When asked about how the road safety and quota reform movements will affect the elections, Milton said that around 2.5 percent and 2.8 percent of the youth were unsatisfied with the government over the road safety and quota reform movement respectively.

He said that the younger generation wants a corruption free society and development of the country.

When asked whether CallReady was a registered body, its researcher Kazi Ahmed said, “We are trying to get registered.”
