Senior BNP leader Nazrul Islam KhanPeople have no faith over the Election Commission (EC) which clearly has affiliations with the government, said BNP’s National Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan.
“It is expected of the parties to be more diligent after the polls schedule announcement but the EC is blatantly ignoring all the promotional activities taking place under the boat symbol even though the electoral symbol is yet to be designated,” he told the media on Friday (Nov 9).
“According to the law they were supposed to order that the promotional banners and festoons be taken down” he added.
Nazrul said that the promotions are going on at many government organizations but the EC is looking the other way because they are maintaining discreet liaisons with the authorities concerned.
Regarding the use of EVMs, the senior BNP leader said, “The bill has not been passed in the Parliament but it was approved by the president anyway.”
Questioning the government’s motives behind using EVMs in cities, he said that there is a good chance of AL losing the elections in cities because people there are more aware.
“EVMs will be used in the cities so that they can rig the polls,” he said.
Nazrul claimed that the BNP chief was wrongfully incarcerated and refused bail because the government fears her popularity.
“How could she have ordered the Cumilla arson when we were at the Gulshan office with no electricity, phone connection or food?” he lashed out.
He mentioned that the 20-party coalition will meet soon to discuss the future actions of the party, adding “We will try to free the country from these robbers.”
