The Election Commission’s announcement of the schedule for the next general election reflects the government’s will not the people’s, says the BNP.
In an instant reaction, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “The schedule has announced to hold a lopsided election as per the government’s will.”
The people will not accept any election which is against their hope and aspiration, he said while addressing the media at the party’s chief’s Gulshan offices after a meeting of the 20-party Alliance led by the BNP.
In a televised address, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda announced the schedule for the general election setting Dec 23 for the voting.
The Commission also fixed Nov 19 as the deadline for the submitting the nominations, which will be scrutinised on Nov 22.
The deadline from pulling out of the race has been fixed Nov 29.
