Islamist party Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish has entered into an electoral coalition with HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party.

Senior leaders of both parties announced it at a press briefing at the Capital’s Diploma Engineers Institute Auditorium on Saturday (Aug 11).

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad said, “Khelfat Majlish has become our ally at a time when there’s anarchy and lack of governance in the country. Now we are dreaming of winning the election.”

The former military dictator claimed, “It’s only them who can bring changes.” A government led by Jatiya party can bring an end to injustice, he said.

On the upcoming election, Ershad said, his party will modify their strategy based on whether BNP participates in the election or not.

“Jatiya Party has the preparation to float candidates to all 300 constituencies, if the BNP doesn’t take part in the polls”, he added.

Khelafat Majlish Amir Principal Allama Habibur Rahman, Secretary General Maulana Mahfuzul Haque, Jatiya Party Co-Chairman G M Quader, Secretary General A.B.M. Ruhul Amin Howlader MP, Islami Oikkojot Chairman Abu Naser Wahed Faruk, Bangladesh Islami Front Secretary General MA Matin and BNA Secretary General Md Jahangir Hossain spoke at the briefing among others.
