Police in Dhaka arrested two people, including the CEO of an online news portal, on charges of spreading rumours to incite violence during the road-safety protests.

News outlet Zoom Bangla’s Yusuf Chowdhury and BUET student Daiyan Alam were detained late on Wednesday, said Additional Deputy Commissioner Nazmul Islam of the cyber crime unit.

“Zoom Bangla has been spreading baseless information for a long time. They have violated the basic ethics of journalism and misled the people by fake news. They incited the recent movement for safer roads by posting irrelevant images of police,” he said.

BUET student Daiyan took to the social media by going live on Facebook and sharing contents to incite violence, added ADC Nazmul.
