Former PM and BNP chief Khaleda Zia is now in jail after being convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. BANGLA TRIBUNE/Sazzad HossainThe High Court has fixed Aug 6 to give its decision over a bail petition by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia over the 2015 firebombing of a bus in Cumilla.
The bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mojibur Rahman scheduled the verdict after concluding the hearing on Wednesday.
The case was filed on Feb 3, 2015, after a bus was firebombed fire on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Cumilla’s Chauddogram when the BNP-led coalition was enforcing a countrywide blockade of road, railway and waterways.
The attack killed eight passengers on the spot and left another 20 others with burn injuries.
Police have pressed murder charges against six senior BNP leaders, including party Khaleda have been charged in the case.
On Jul 1, the Cumilla court ordered Khaleda’s arrest. Her counsels appealed for bail a number of times with the trial court with no decisions yet on the plea before moving the High Court.
