The fire at a shopping zone at the capital's Taktuli has been brought under control.
It took 25 fire-fighting units over an hour to tame the blazes that erupted at the Rajdhani Super Market around 5.15pm on Wednesday (Nov 20), said Debashish Bardhan, deputy director of Fire Services and Civil Defence (FSCD).
The fire originated from a foam products shop on the first floor of the market, He added.

FSCD Director General Brigadier General Md Sazzad Hussain said the market housed several hundred shops

“Fire gutted 14-15 shops and no causality reported,” he added,
Traders, however, claimed the fire destroyed nearly 50 shops in the market.

The amount of damage was not assessed immediately.
A probe body would be formed to find out the cause of the fire, the FSCD chief said.

Rajdhani Super Market, an establishment of the Muktijudha Kolyan Trust (Freedom Fighters' Welfare Trust) under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, has some 1,200 tin-shed shops mostly selling saris, shoes, dress designing material, cosmetics, among others.
