Samrat remanded in ACC illegal wealth case

Police transported Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat to the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court on Tuesday (Oct 15).The court has granted the police six days to grill former Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in custody over a case filed for amassing illegal wealth.
Dhaka Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayes gave the order on Sunday (Nov 17).
The investigating officer sought seven days to grill Samrat against which the court granted six.
On Nov 12, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) opened a case against the former Jubo League leader with its Integrated District Office-1 in Dhaka.
The graft watchdog brought allegation of amassing nearly Tk 30 million beyond his known source of income against Samrat.
Previously on Oct 15, the court placed Samrat on a total of 10-day remand in the two cases under the illegal arms and narcotics
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Samrat on Oct 6 over his alleged links to the illegal casino business in the capital.
A mobile court handed him a six-month prison sentence for possession of kangaroo skins under the Wild Animal Protection Act and he was later sent to the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.
Two cases were also filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act and Arms Act with the Ramna Police Station.
