Monsur Ali

Police have recovered the body of a Bangla Tribune journalist Monsur Ali from Dhaka’s Banasree.

The thirty-three-year-old was found dead in his rented apartment on Saturday (Nov 16) evening.

Following an autopsy on Sunday (Nov 17), Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Forensic Division's Dr Pradip Biswas said that a heart attack is most likely to be the cause of death.

“We didn’t find anything external in the body. Neither was there any assault wound. However, we have collected blood from the lungs and heart for the viscera,” he added.

His first funeral prayers were held at the Bangla Tribune offices at 1pm on Sunday after which the body will be handed over to the family.

On Saturday evening, Monsur’s flatmate, Sarabangla.net journalist Monijit Mitra found the door of their apartment locked when he reached home.

“I found the door closed when I came back around 6pm. I rang the bell several times, even called Monsur but there was no response,” he said.

He added that he called 999 after which Khilgaon police broke down the door to discover the body.

“Police have collected the evidence and the body has been sent for autopsy,” Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Khilgaon Zone) Assistant Commissioner Zulfiqer Ali told the media at the scene.

According to Bangla Tribune’s Transport Department, Monsur was dropped off at his home on Saturday (Nov 16) just after 12:30am.

A Chattogram University journalism graduate, Monsur hailed from the northeastern district of Sylhet’s Fenchuganj Upazila. He had worked at The Daily Ittefaq before joining Bangla Tribune as a sub-editor in 2017.

Bangla Tribune Publisher Kazi Anis Ahmed and Editor Zulfiqer Russell expressed deep condolence over the death of Monsur and conveyed their sympathies to the bereaved family.
