Khondoker Nasiruddin. FILE PHOTOAnti Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched a probe into allegations of corruption against Khondokar Nasiruddin, former VC of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) in Gopalganj.
ACC Director Sheikh Fanafillah will be appointed as the investigating official in the case, the graft watchdog’s public relations said on Wednesday (Nov 13).
Nasiruddin, who stepped down in the face of student protests on Sept 30, is accused of demanding excess fees for admission, dormitory, medical treatment and credits.
The students began their movement when a student of the university, also a campus correspondent for a daily newspaper, was expelled over a Facebook post.
A recorded conversation between the student and Nasiruddin became viral where the VC was heard admonishing the student and making obscene comments about the student’s father.
On Sept 21, out of campus thugs supporting Nasiruddin swooped in on university students in which 20 people were wounded.
Following the attack, the University Grants Commission formed a probe panel at the order of the education ministry which recommended the removal of Nasiruddin.
