The government has set a minimum academic qualification for the president of management bodies of state-owned primary school management.
According to circular by the primary and mass education ministry on Monday (Nov 11), a graduate degree will be mandatory to head the governing bodies of primary schools.
Earlier, there were no academic requirements to be the president of the board of a primary school. As per rules, the tenure of the 11-member management committee will be for three years. The headmaster of the school will be the member secretary for the committee with one teacher representative.
There will be one member who gave the land for the school and will be elected by the decision of the upazila education committee. Guardian members need to have cleared at least the school-leaving SSC exams.
The election of the members will be done under the supervision of the local education officer. The union parishad member, ward commissioner and city corporation council member will also feature in the board.
If a management committee isn’t formed then an ad hoc committee can be formed for a maximum of six months. The five member ad hoc committee will have the headmaster as the member secretary.
