Don’t bar Imran H Sarker from travelling abroad: HC to govtThe High Court has ordered the government not to bar Imran H Sarker from travelling abroad.
The HC bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Shohrowardi passed the order on Monday (Jul 23) after hearing a writ petition filed by Sarker.
The Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson filed the petition challenging the government decision on barring him to go abroad and seeking court permission to travel.
Home ministry secretary, inspector general of police, immigration department and other relevant parties were made defendants in the petition.
Earlier on Jul 21, members of law enforcement agencies prevented Sarker from travelling to the US.
Invited by US Department of State, Sarker was scheduled to go to the USA to attend the Youth Visitors Leadership Programme and another programme on human rights.
Sarker arrived in the airport at 4pm on Jul 21 as his US-bound Emirates flight was scheduled to take off at 7pm. After clearing immigration, he boarded the plane. Then, he was asked Sarker to come out of the aircraft and quizzed by security officials for a quite long time.
Later, the officials informed the Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson that he was taken off from the aircraft on orders by the higher authorities.
