Hamdard MD accused of a litany of aberrations

Photo of Hakim Yousuf Harun Bhuiyan and his sons and daughterThe ACC has found evidence of illegal wealth worth more than Tk 120 million possessed by the managing director (MD) of Hamdard Laboratories, Hakim Yousuf Harun Bhuiyan and his four sons.
Based on analysis and recommendation of ACC desk officer, official permission has been sought to initiate corruption cases against them.
Documents with the ACC say that Yousuf Harun is MD of Hamdard and three of his sons hold important posts at the organisation while the other is a chairman of a related body.
Information gathered by the ACC suggests that through corruption and abuse of post, Yousuf Harun and his sons accumulated more than Tk 120 million.
His eldest son is the chairman of an organisation called Janakalyan Pharmaceutical. Hamdard has business ties with this body. The second son, Saifuddin Muran Bhuiyan is a director (marketing) of Hamdard, the youngest son is deputy managing director (DMD) while daughter Nargis Marjan is the director of HR.
The ACC investigation found ten complaints against him: 1. Nepotism and appointing children to posts of directors, 2. Taking excess salary, 3. Embezzlement of money in the name of importing raw materials, 4. Wealth taken from unknown sources, 5. Linking Hamdard to a loss-making company called Janakalyan Pharmaceuticals, 6. Giving bribes to from a Motwalli committee bypassing the trustee board, 7. Importing materials without tenders, 8. Giving undue privileges to relatives, 9. Sacking workers who protested corruption and aberrations, 10. Disregard for Wakof law.
Yousuf Harun was served notice to be present at ACC office on Jun 11 but he excused himself citing illness. On Aug 29, an ACC assistant director quizzed him for three and a half hours.
