DNCC Councillor Mizan sent to jail

The court in Moulvibazar has scrapped the bail plea of Dhaka North Ward-33 Councilor Habibur Rahman Mizan and sent him to jail.
Judge Abdullah Mohammad Salehi gave the order on Tuesday (Oct 22), after Rapid Action Battalion produced him in a lower court, confirmed Moulvibazar court Inspector Md Abdul Hai Chowdhury
Responding to queries on Mizan’s remand, he said, “The remand plea hasn’t been filed yet. It will be submitted in a couple of days.”
Mizan, the now expelled general secretary of the ruling party’s Mohammadpur unit, was arrested on Oct 11.
RAB detained him from Sreemangal claiming that he was trying to flee the country following the ongoing crackdown on casinos.
A gun, four rounds of ammunition and Tk 200,000 were found in his possession.
Later that day, the elite police unit raided the home of the controversial Awami League leader in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur, when fixed deposit receipt (FDR) savings worth Tk 10 million and several cheques of total Tk 67.7 million, signed by Mizan, were seized.
