Abrar murder: Moaz, Shamim sent to jail after remand

PHOTO/SAZZAD HOSSAINA court in Dhaka has sent Moaz Abu Huraira, and Shamim Billah to jail custody, as police produced them before the court after five days of remand, in BUET student Abrar Fahad’s murder case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikary passed the order as Detective Branch Inspector Md Wahiduzzaman, also the case investigation officer produced them before the court on Saturday.
The court ordered jail custody for them when Inspector Md Wahiduzzaman pleaded to keep them behind bars, confirmed Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mazharul Islam.
Earlier, on Oct 13, Moaz and Shamim were placed on a five-day remand.
Five of the ten accused previously remanded - Mehedi Hasan Rasel, Muhtasim Fuad, Muntasir, Khandaker Tabassarul, and Ishtiaq Munna - are currently in jail.
Oct 7, Abrar Fahad, a student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, was beaten to death inside the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of the day.
Several Chhatra League leaders have been accused of mercilessly torturing him for hours, and beating him to death.
Abrar's father filed a murder case against 19 people at Chawkbazar police station in the evening of Oct 7. So far, 20 people have been detained in connection with the case.
Of the detainees, Deputy Social Service Secretary of BUET Chhatra League Ifti Mosharraf Sakal, Sports Secretary Meftahul Islam Zion, and Information and Research Secretary Anik Sarkar gave their confessional statements before a judicial magistrate.
