War crimes verdict against Rajshahi man any day

International Crimes Tribunal (Bangladesh)The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has concluded the trial against Rajshahi’s Abdus Sattar alias Tipu Sultan for crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War.
The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam kept its verdict pending after hearing closing arguments by the prosecution and defence on Thursday (Oct 17).
"Two charges have been levelled on Abdus Sattar alias Tipu alias Tipu Sultan, 66, a member of Islami Chhatra Sangha - the then student wing of anti-liberation force Jamaat-e-Islami and a member of the Razakar Bahini during the Liberation War," said Prosecutor Muklesur Rahman Badal.
According to the charges, the accused was involved in the killing of at least 10 people, torturing of two people and looting and arson attacks on twelve houses in areas under Boalia police station of Rajshahi.
The trial began after the tribunal indicted him on the charges in August 2018.
