Any head of the educational institution or teacher risk losing their monthly pay order (MPO) and suspension if found guilty of any of those offences, an education ministry official told Bangla Tribune.
Secondary and Higher Education Division Senior Secretary Md Shohrab Hossain said that measures will be initiated against the governing bodies of the schools and if needed the institutions will be stripped of their MPO status.
“The institutions have to inform us beforehand how many seats they have. They cannot admit more student than the fixed number of seats,” he said.
“There is no scope for admissions in any other quotas other than the ones approved by the government,” he added, saying that the monitoring will begin when admissions start in November.
According to sources, the move came after allegations of irregularities and corruption in the admission sector were brought against renowned institutions such as Viqarunnisa Noon School and College and Ideal School and College.
On Sept 19 this year, the education ministry decided to order the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education to prepare a list of educational institutions that have been involved in admission irregularities.
It was also decided that the monitoring will be regularly carried out during every intake session in November-December.
A Secondary and Higher Education Division wing has been told to file a report along with the list within Oct 15.
Saying that the monitoring will be carried out to put a stop to excess student intake and additional fees, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education chief Professor Abdul Mannan said, “There will be no lax here. The monitoring will strictly continue until the end.”
In 2018, Viqarunnisa Noon School and College governing body members, acting principal and teachers were accused of carrying out ‘admission trade.’
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education was also ordered to stay the MPO of the principal of Ideal School and College after allegations of the graft was found against him.
