The authorities of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology have sealed off three rooms of its two separate dormitories for illegal occupancy a day after the activities of student political bodies on were banned on the campus.
Room no. 321 of Ahsan Ullah Hall, the room of Bangladesh Chattra League BUET unit Ppresident Jami-us-Sani and Room no. 3012 of Sher-e-Bangla hall, alloted to General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Rasel, and Room no. 121 of Ahsan Ullah Hall have been sealed off.
Jami-us-Sani told Bangla Tribune that he was there when the room was sealed off at 12pm on Saturday (Oct 12).
"The hall authorities sealed off the room and asked the irregular students to leave the dormitory," he said adding he is not a regular student though holds a studentship.
BUET Directorate of Students' Welfare Director Mizanur Rahman said "Three rooms were sealed off and all illegal occupants have been ordered to leave the dormitories."




The authorities, however, on Sunday (Oct 13) will start a drive to seal off more rooms used by the BCL leaders and activists.
The move on Saturday (Oct 12) follows a prior noticed issued by the BUET on Friday (Oct 11) stating that they would start an eviction drive against illegal tenants, and seal off all offices of student bodies on campus.
According to the Friday notice, strict disciplinary measures will be taken against any student who attempts to carry out organizational politics in the campus.
In addition to that, the statement said if allegations of ragging or torture are raised against any student, he will be given maximum punishment by the disciplinary committee after a trial.
Besides, BUET authorities have issued four more written statements accepting the five demands by the protesting students, in accordance to the decisions taken during the meeting held between BUET'S vice chancellor and the protesting students on Friday.
The notices stated that those named in the case charge sheet of Abrar Fahad's murder have been temporarily suspended from the university, effective immediately.
It also said anyone who is found guilty by the court will be expelled from the institution.
Another notice also said BUET administration will bear all expenses of Abrar's case and provide due compensation to his family.
In addition to that, BUET administration has decided to bring all wings of all floors in each dormitory under 24/7 CCTV monitoring.
Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of the university, was beaten to death on Oct 7.
Some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders have been accused of beating him for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami in addition to posting a Facebook status criticising Bangladesh-India water-sharing deal on Feni river.
Following the incident, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 people with the capital's Chawkbazar police.
The BCL also expelled 11 of its members including Jiyon permanently from the organization for their alleged involvement in the murder.
The killing of Abrar sparked protest across the country with protesters demanding justice for Abrar and capital punishment for the murderers.
As of Saturday, nearly 20 people have been arrested in connection to the murder.
