Several high profile cases pending

And since many people linked to militancy cannot be arrested, the cases are still pending .

An investigation officer says that the cases are 'delicate' and several aspects are being looked into.

One tragic death is that of Rajib Hossain, whose hand was severed in an accident on Apr 3, 2018. Under treatment, he died on Apr 16. While this accident created public outrage, the case is still running.

That case is being investigated by Shahbagh police. A high court writ ordered compensation for Rajib’s family, but has not been implemented as yet.

Shahbagh police OC Abul Hassan said: “Investigation is underway.”

The hearing date is fixed for Nov 4 next.

On Nov 29, Dia Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, two school students lost their lives due to reckless driving.

This incident triggered a nationwide storm of protest and led young people to come to the streets to check vehicle papers and documents from drivers.

On Oct 8, 2018, a Road Transport Law-2018 was passed but the bus and truck owners opposed it. Later, two committees were formed: National Road Safety Council and Road Transport Law- 2018.

These have held several meetings.

Former Chief Justice SK Sinha, left the country on Oct 13, 2017.

A case was lodged against CJ Sinha by former BNP leader, Nazmul Huda, for demanding a bribe of Tk 32.5 million.

The investigation report of the case will be submitted on Oct 29. The case is being investigated by ACC director Syed Iqbal Hossain.

The case is delicate and witnesses have been summoned. Many did not show up and an assessment of The available information is underway, added Syed Iqbal.

On Dec 24, 2016, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) carried out an operation at a house in Ashkona in which two militants were killed and a woman was arrested.

The investigation officer of the case is CTTC inspector Sayedur Rahman said a report is to be submitted on Oct 9.

The Ashkona incident is related to the Holey Artisan attack and therefore, several aspects of the issue were being looked into, said investigation officer.

After Nurul Huq Nuru was elected the VP of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) a case was lodged against him and six others over the ransacking of Rokeya Hall and the assault on provost Zeenat Huda.

There has been no hearing yet.

Shahbagh police OC said: “There are several aspects to the case which cannot be revealed but we are trying to settle it as quickly as possible.”

Hackers stole around $101 million from Bangladesh Bank’s Federal Reserve on Feb 4, 2016. When the matter came to light, a case was lodged at the Motijheel police.

But the CID has not completed its work yet. Reportedly, 30 persons based in different countries are linked to the crime and efforts are underway by the foreign ministry to get information about them.

The investigation report is to be submitted on Oct 20 next.
