A judge has ordered the arrest of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus in a case filed by sacked employees Grameen Communications.

Dhaka’s Third Labour Court Chairman Rohibul Islam passed the orders for skipping an appearance on Wednesday (Oct 9) despite being summoned.

According to the case documents, three employees of Grameen Communications were sacked for wanting to form a trade union at the organisation.

The three of them filed a case against Yunus and the organisation’s Managing Director Naznin Sultana and Deputy Director-General Khandaker Abu Abedin on July 3 after which the court issued a summons against the accused.

Both Sultana and Abedin have been granted bail but an arrest warrant was issued against Yunus after his counsel Raju Ahmed told the court that he was currently abroad.
