A court in Dhaka has granted police 10 days to interrogate Kalabagan Krira Chakra club's President Shafiqul Islam Firoz in two cases filed under the narcotics and firearms legislation.

Following his arrest by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Friday (Sept 20), the Dhanmondi police produced him before a Dhaka metropolitan magistrate on Saturday (Sept 21) and sought 10 days remand each in the cases.

Magistrate Mahmuda Akter granted investigators five days each in the cases, said Sub Inspector Ashraf Ali, the court’s general registration officer for Dhanmondi police.

Earlier in the day, RAB started two cases against Firoz when they put him in the custody of Dhanmondi police.

RAB detained Firoz, a central leader of Awami League front organisation the Krishak League, and his four associates from the club late on Friday. The elite force also seized a firearm, bullets and Yaba tablets from their possession.
