The High Court has stayed the joining of newly-appointed principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Professor Fougia Rezwan.
On Monday (Sept 16), the court instructed Deputy Attorney General Amit Das Gupta to ensure that Fougia does not join till 11am Tuesday (Sept 17).
The order by Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice MD Khairul Alam came after hearing a petition challenging the appointment of the public servant.
The petition by Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond argues that the governing body of Viqarunnisa is the authority to appoint its principal while the government is authorised to appoint the teachers.
In 2018, principal Nazneen Ferdous and two other teachers of the institution were removed over the suicide of Aritree Adhikari, a student of the school.
Later, the school’s governing body appointed its assistant professor Hasina Begum as the acting principal.
