There is widespread discontent about Dhaka Shishu Hospital as it charges Tk 10 for a general service ticket, but one has to pay as high as Tk 230 to get emergency service.
However, parents are more or less satisfied with the health service that the hospital provides.
Mafruha Maharrukh, who brought her nephew to the hospital, said the hospital provides ‘satisfactory service’.
She, however, said the hospital should be more neat and clean, but in Bangladesh context, it may not possible. She also lamented that the emergency service price of Tk 230 is too high.
Expressing similar feeling about service, Jannatul Ferdous of Sherpur said, her nephew had a surgery free of cost.
She, however, complained that post-operative service is poor at the hospital.
Deputy Director of the hospital Abu Tyub admitted that emergency service ticket price is exorbitant.
“We are trying to bring it down and also we vehemently oppose any hike in room and other tariffs,” he said.
He said the patients don’t have complaints about the service as we are trying out best in providing that.
“We have 20 incubators and eight ventilator machine, but we feel that we need more. It is expected that the service will be better in next one year.”
