Over 60,000 new teacher posts in govt primary schools

A teacher takes class at Dhaka`s Ideal School and College.The government has decided to create as many as 61,166 new posts of teachers at the nationalised primary schools across Bangladesh to ensure the quality of education.
The decision was taken at the annual meeting of the Fourth Primary Education Development Programme at the Primary and Mass Education Ministry on Thursday (Aug 22) with Mass Education Secretary Md Akram-Al-Hasan in the chair.
A proposal on the recruitment has been forwarded to the Public Administration Ministry, sources said.
According to the Directorate of Primary Education, there are 322,766 teachers in the country and 130,100 of them have been appointed by the present government.
Moreover, assistant primary teacher recruitment examinations were also underway.
Sources at the meeting said that those who qualify in the assistant primary teacher recruitment examinations will be appointed in 2020 while new teachers will be appointed to new posts.
Representatives from Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Union (EU), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), UNICEF and World Bank also attended the annual meetings which started on Aug 4.
The concluding session of the annual meeting was held on Thursday.
The meeting discussed on ensuring the quality of education, student participation, management and governance, financial and purchase management, coordination and partnership.
A Tk 100 million was allocated for 523 schools, which was damaged during disasters while 26,000 ICT packages would be distributed for multi-media classrooms at different schools in 2019-2020 fiscal year, the ministry sources said.
