The High Court has issued a rule asking why Minni should not be granted bail in the Rifat murder case within a week.
The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman on Tuesday (Aug 20) also asked SP Maruf to submit an explanation through the Attorney General’s Office by August 28.
The bench has show-caused Barguna Superintendent of Police Maruf Hossain to explain why he briefed the media on the involvement of Ayesha Siddiqua Minni before recording her confessional statement in the Rifat murder case.
The court also summoned Barguna Sadar police station Inspector Humayun Kabir, also the investigation officer of the case, to inform the court on the progress of the case by August 28.
Lawyer Z I Khan Panna and his team represented Minni while Deputy Attorney General Md Sarwar Hossain represented the state.
On August 18, Ayesha Siddiqua Minni filed a bail petition with the High Court but the court refused to grant her bail.
