SMHI Faruque, the landowner of Banani’s FR Tower, has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission in a case over design forgery charges.

A team of the anti-corruption watchdog arrested Faruk at noon from Gulshan-2 area on Monday (Aug 19).

His arrest came a day after the ACC arrested Tasvir Ul Islam, another owner of the FR Tower, in the same case.

Earlier on Jun 25, Deputy Director Abu Bakar Siddiqui of the graft watchdog filed two cases against 23 people over irregularities and corruption regarding the construction of FR Tower at the capital’s posh area Banani.

BNP leader Tasvir and Rupayan Group Chairman Liaquat Ali Khan Mukul were named in the cases altogether.

On Mar 28, a deadly fire in FR Tower claimed 26 lives and injured more than 70.

Multiple inquiries were open to probe the incident and determine the ones responsible for the design malpractice that ended up killing and injuring so many.

On Jul 30, ACC arrested Rajuk Assistant Director Shah Md Badrul Alam in the same case.
