Inquiry opened over Lalbagh factory fire

A fire breaks out at Lalbagh plastic factory in Dhaka on Wednesday (Aug 14) night.A committee has been formed to investigate the fire that broke out at a plastic factory in Lalbagh late Wednesday.

The three-member committee was formed on Thursday and was asked to submit a report within seven working days, said Fire Service’s Warehouse Inspector Atiqul Alam, reports UNB.

Fire Service and Civil Defence’s Deputy Director (Operation) Dilip Ghosh is heading the committee. The other members are Assistant Commissioner (Operation) Abdul Halim and Deputy Director (Posta zone) Newton Das.

Sixteen firefighting units were deployed to put out the fire which started around 10:40pm, according to Muntasirul Islam, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Lalbagh Division.

The fire was completely doused around 4am on Thursday, confirmed AtikulAlam Chowdhury, duty officer of Fire Service headquarters.

“We have not received news of any casualties so far,” he said, adding that the cause of the fire and extent of damage could not be known yet.
