A suspected leader of Hizb ut-Tahrir has been arrested in Dhaka, who the police claimed was the chief of the banned Islamist outfit’s city unit’s publicity wing.
Thirty-one-year-old Tanvir Hasan alias Naim was held during a raid by police’s Anti-Terrorism Unit (AT) at Matuali of the capital’s Jatrabari on Monday (Jul 22) night, ATU’s Superintendent (legal and media) Mahiduzzam told Bangla Tribune on Tuesday (Jul 23).
Police also recovered anti-government leaflets, extremist books, four cell phones, a laptop and a pen drive and a hard disk from during the raid, he added.
The police official said that Tanvir worked as an assistant teacher at the capital’s Alfred International School and College after completing his MBA from Dhaka College.
Tanvir joined the outfit in 2008 and heads its Dhaka city unit’s publicity wing. He was also arrested in 2009 for his involvement in Hizb ut-Tahrir.
A case would be filed against Tanvir under the Anti-Terrorism Act, added Mahiduzzam.
