Over 179,000 primary school teachers appointed since 2009

File photo of a female teacher teaching students at a government primary school COURTESYAs many as 179,717 teachers have been appointed at government primary schools across the country between 2009 and 2018 with nearly 1,500 new schools established during the period.
This was revealed by primary and mass education ministry during a meeting of Parliament's Committee on Government Assurances on Tuesday (Jul 16), said a statement of the Parliament Secretariat.
The House panel recommended for maximum priority on primary education in utilizing the ongoing project funds.
It also recommended increasing monitoring at schools, colleges, and universities levels to enhance education quality.
The panel was informed that establishment of as many as 100 institutions at 100 upazilas have begun in the first phases as part of government' plan for technical school and colleges at all upazlias.
Project formulation is on to set up another 329 technical school and colleges in the second phase, it was told.
Lawmaker Professor Md Ali Ashraf presided over the meeting, held at the Parliament Complex.
