The state was represented by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Debnath while the appeal was represented by Advocate Khondokar Mahbub Hossain and Barrister Shishir Monir.
Earlier, the court appointed a few supreme-court lawyers as amicus curiae (friends of the court) to give opinion if life term will mean until death or not.
The appointed are: Barrister Rokon Uddin Mahmud, AF Hassan Arif, Abdur Rejak Khan and Monsurul Huq Chowdhury.
On a murder case, court gave death sentence to two criminals, Ataur Rahman and Anwar Hossain in 2003. Later, the appeal hearing for the accused came to high court and death sentence was upheld in 2007. However, an appellate division verdict commuted the sentence to life imprisonment in 2017.
