Rabeya KhatunThe high court has summoned the judge of Dhaka based additional special tribunal – 2 on Jul 3 to ask why a case on which a stay order was declared was allowed to run. The case in question is against octogenarian, Rabeya Khatun and two others for possessing illegal arms and bullets.

The court has asked the assistant public prosecutor, Sahabuddin Mia to be present and demanded to know if the main criminal of the case, Zulhas Mia has died or not.

Earlier, the HC asked for documents of the case from the lower court which has been running for 18 years. The court has also issued a rule with a two-week time limit, asking why the delay in settling the case will not be declared unlawful.

The writ about the delay in the case was lodged following a newspaper report, published on Apr 25.

The newspaper report stated that sub-inspector of Tejgaon thana, Abdur Razzak, lodged a case against Rabeya and two others for illegal possession of firearms on Jun 2, 2002. Rabeya was arrested and released after six months, but later, the trial started on Mar 24, 2003, and a charge formed against Zulhas and Masud.

To get a reprieve from the case is the only wish of the octogenarian.
