Police sub-inspector Shafiqul Islam, is working to keep workers, youth and rickshaw pullers free from the clutches of tobacco. People who are engaged in hard work often smoke and when they cannot work, their families suffer.
To keep the working class people free from tobacco, SI Shafiqul Islam is working.
He dreams of a tobacco-free society; Shafiqul Islam is posted at the Badda Police Station.
Talking to Bangla Tribune, Shafiq said: “I used to smoke and became sick. Later, at the doctor’s advice, I gave up.”
Thinking about the adverse impact of smoking, I started to think about raising public awareness.
Out of a desire to carry out a social service, he began writing leaflets and wall papers.
When I began my campaign, people began to criticise me but I remained undaunted in my mission.
Shafiqul Islam has also formed an organisation called ‘Want a tobacco free Bangladesh’.
During leisure time, he goes around sensitizing people about the downsides of tobacco.
Every district has a branch of my organisation through which we underline the harmful effects of smoking to the masses, students and the youth.
The crusader police officer has also opened a Facebook page called ‘Want a tobacco free Bangladesh.’
The organisation has 303 advisers who are working in different cadres of government. Around 35,200 people across the country are linked to this movement along with students and teachers.
