An expatriate, Abdul Doyas lives in London.Deputy Inspector General Mizanur Rahman has been accused of bribing the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) to cover up the graft allegations against him and Bangla Tribune has uncovered a few audio recordings that show that the allegations are not completely untrue.
The conversations took place between DIG Mizan and an expatriate, Abdul Doyas who lives in London.
The five audio clips that were recorded during conversations at a hotel in Dhaka showed that Mizan has offered as much bribe as needed to influence the ACC probe against him.
Moreover, ACC director Abdul Aziz Bhuiyan, who is on leave preparatory to retirement (LPR) has also been a part of these conversations which revolved around ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood, directors Khandaker Enamul Basir, Kazi Shafiq, Nasim Anwar and Deputy Director Farid Ahmed Patwary---- some of them have admitted that they knew Doyas.
Bangla Tribune has also unearthed photos of Doyas with top ACC officials and former and current police employees.
DIG Mizan claimed that ACC director Khandakar Enamul Basir, who was in charge of the probe against him accepted A bribe of Tk 4 million and leaked a few audio clips in this regard.
Basir was suspended following the allegations but the probe against Mizan continued. An ACC committee and a police headquarters committee was also formed on Jun 13 and Jun 16 respectively.
Deputy Inspector General Mizanur RahmanACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood told Bangla Tribune on Sunday (Jun 23) that he knew Doyas but they had never discussed anything about probes and investigations and no one had ever made any complaints against him either.
Responding to queries on why his name popped up in the conversation, Kazi Shafiq said, “It’s natural that my name came up. I’ve been after DIG Mizan’s case for a long time.”
He claimed that he had spoken to Doyas who called him on Viber and asked for an appointment which Shafiq didn’t give.
Responding to queries on Aziz who said during a conversation with Mizan that Shafiq and he were close, he said, “He (Aziz), is a former colleague of mine and he had told me that Doyas wanted to meet me.”
Aziz Bhuiyan was unavailable over the phone and Doyas didn’t respond to calls at his London number as Bangla Tribune tried to contact him several times.
