Police suspect the two attackers, seen in the Jun 15 footage, were involved in the murder of Awami League leader Farhad Ali in Badda the same day.
The footage shows law enforces at check post stopping an autorickshaw for a routine search as it was entering Gulshan.
Two men, one wearing a white shirt and the other red, came out from the three-wheeler. Soon after, the red shirt-donning man pulled out a gun and pointed it at policemen.
The law enforcers, which included APBn personnel armed with rifles, backed off while the other man reached in to the autorickshaw for, what police said a firearm hidden inside and fled the scene on foot, when his accomplice fired two shots before leaving.
Gulshan police said the check post was part of the regular security process. “The police personnel posted there had no idea that a murder took place in nearby Badda. There five-strong security post was led by an assistant sub inspector,” Gulshan OC Abu Bakar Siddique told Bangla Tribune.
Badda police, which is investigating the murder of the Awami League leader the same day, said the description of the two men matched with the witnesses’ accounts of the murder suspect as well as with another security footage obtained near from the crime scene.
“We think it was the assailants of Farhad Ali, who opened fire on police in Gulshan,” Inspector Nazrul Islam of Badda police told Bangla Tribune.
