Road crashes claim nine lives across country

FILE PHOTOAs many as nine people have been killed and over twelve people have been injured in road accidents across the country between Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon.
In capital Dhaka, a man was killed—and three others were injured—when a bus hit an auto-rickshaw in Mohammadpur Beribadh early on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Tofazzal Hossain, 60, an auto-rickshaw driver from Batenbari village of Bhola's Borhanuddin upazila.
Bacchu Mia, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp, said the accident took place around 4:30am when a bus rammed the auto-rickshaw heading towards Dhanmondi.
The driver and three passengers were injured in the accident.
Later, they were taken to a local hospital where doctors declared Tofazzal dead around 6am.

In Kushtia, one person was killed and twelve others injured in a road accident in Kuthibari of Khoksa upazila on Wednesday. The deceased, Mussaddek Ali Sheikh, 36, was a resident of Komolapur, Khoksa upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khoksa police station Mehedi Masud said: "The bus lost control and crashed into a ditch on the Kushtia-Rajbari highway killing Musaddek on the spot and injuring twelve others. We rescued the injured and sent them to Khoksa Upazila Health Complex.
In Meherpur, one was killed when a bus hit a roadside tree on Dhaka bound highway in Bashbaria filling station on Tuesday (Jun 11). The deceased, Shahin, 35, was a transport worker by profession is form Mujibnagar upazila.
In Pabna, a man and his nephew were killed when their motorbike collided with a human hauler at Circuit House in the Sadar upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased are Hafez Walid, 22, son of Amin Pramanik; and Pranta Hossain, 16, son of Shafiq Pramanik of Balrampur village of the upazila.
Police said the accident took place around 10am when the motorbike Walid and Pranta were riding collided head-on with a human hauler.
They died on the spot, said Obaidul Haq, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
In Naogaon, Three motorcycle riders were killed in an accident in Mohadevpur upazila of Naogaon.
Their motorcycles collided head-on with a truck near Mahishbathan intersection of the upazila around 9:30pm on Tuesday.
The identities of the deceased have yet to be determined.
Mohadevpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sazzad Hossain said: “The three motorcyclists were on their way to Mahishbathan bazaar, when a Mohadevpur-bound truck rammed into them, leaving the three dead on spot.”
In Dinajpur, a motor cyclist was killed in a road accident in Tetultala under Biral upazila.
The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain, 50.
