Expired drugs found on 93% pharmacy shelves

Representational Image of AntibioticsMost pharmacies in the country are at fault of keeping some expired medicines in their shops, an official of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection disclosed this on Monday (Jun 10).



He, however, made it clear that "But it does not mean that all the medicines are date expired in those pharmacies.”
"We have found expired medicine in 93% of the pharmacies countrywide after investigating for six months in the field,” said Monjur Mohammad Shahriar, a Deputy Director of the Directorate.
He was speaking at a roundtable discussion after the inauguration of a program held in observance of the World Food Safety Day at the office of the Department of Agriculture Extension.
Bangladesh Supermarket Owners Association and Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation jointly organized the event to celebrate World Food Safety Day for the first time. The day was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018.
