Chhatra league members who were deprived of posts have declared that unless controversial leaders are discarded from the committee and the actual workers valued, they will carry on a protest at the Raju sculpture of the University of Dhaka.
They also sought the intervention of the PM at this time to have their demands met.
At a press conference, former deputy secretary of Chhatra League, Sheikh Nakibul Islam Sumon, said: “If our demands are not met then we will take position in front of the Raju sculpture on Eid day.”
On 19 May last, we were called by top AL leaders and after talking to them, expressed our desire to meet the PM; we also wanted the expulsion of controversial leaders plus the valuation of real workers and the punishment of those who assaulted genuine and devoted Chhatra members.”
At that time, the leaders pledged to accept our demands and we withdrew our agitation; unfortunately, steps were taken against those who were victims of physical assault, added Sumon.
Rokeya Hall Chhatra League president Lipi Akhter, says: “The PM ordered the restructuring of the committee by expelling the controversial people which hasn’t happened as yet.”
On the contrary, a declaration was made to take them to pay homage to the image of Bangabandhu.
This is unfortunate, she deplored.
