The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested seven people in Dhaka for their alleged involvement in conning people through online schemes.

The arrests were made during raids at the capital’s Darus Salam area between late Wednesday and early Thursday (May 23), the elite police unit told the media.

The suspects have been identified as Sujan Mollah, 26, Hasibul Hasan, 32, Jardish Hossain, 20, Mehedi Hassan, 23, Nur Islam, 19, Abu Taher, 19.

Computers, mobile phones, routers and samples of various products were seized from their possession during the raids, said RAB.

The members of a fraud ring used to operate at least 17 websites to sell counterfeit products of branded items.

RAB has announced the websites, such as Unique Fashion, Rose Fashion BD, Lifestyle.com, GreenXpress.Com, Gentle Fashion, Gentle Point, Fashion Point, Plus Point, Mobile Shop24, Goyna Mohol, Arifull Islam Ariean, Niloy Mahmud Sujan, MD Tanvir Abutaher, Advance Electronics, Dream Fashion, Xian Rihan.

"The arrestees used to copy the brands and uploaded on their fake websites. They used to offer lower prices for the branded items, which made them swindled," said RAB-4 captain Additional DIG Chowdhury Monjurul Kabir.

"The seven have been arrested after a renowned apparel brand in the country, Sailor, filed a complaint over the matter," he said.
