The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has submitted a report to the High Court stating that Tk 5.3 million is needed for the set up of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Tk 2.3 million for a Coronary Care Unit (CCU).
The report was provided by DGHS Director Dr M Aminul Hasan on Tuesday (May 21), reports Dhaka Tribune.
A list of the total existing ICUs and CCUs in government and non-government hospitals was also presented to the court, however, the court was notified that the DGHS is collecting detailed information on this issue from across the country for a complete report.
The High Court ordered the DGHS to submit the complete report by Jun 26.
The High Court bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order after hearing a writ filed by Human Rights Lawyers and Environment Society of Bangladesh Treasurer Shah Alam.

On Mar 7, the court directed the DGHS to submit a list of the ICUs and CCUs at all hospitals in the country, including the manpower and specialists assigned to the units and the cost for setting them up.
On Jul 24, 2018, the court directed the authorities concerned to fix the fees for medical tests at private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres, to hang the list of prices in public, and to establish CCUs and ICUs at the district level.
