No public bus in Dhaka will be operated without ticket after Eid-ul-Fitr, says Dhaka South city Mayor Sayeed Khokon.
“The decision will end bus crisis and commuters’ misery,” he told the media after a meeting of the Bus Route Regularisation Committee at his office on Monday (May 20).
The mayor said field trips would be made to formulate a plan setting up ticket counters in coordination with the government agencies including Dhaka Transport Co-ordination Authority, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation, and Dhaka south and north city corporations.
“Authorities concerned have been instructed to make the decision effective after Eid,” said Khokon adding all buses’ tickets would be available at the same spot.
The mayor said they have also decided to launch circular bus service at the city’s Uttara from May 27, followed by new services in Motijheel and Sadarghat areas.
“Circular bus service will ease traffic jam in these areas,” said Khokon.
