Two suspected covered van hijackers have been killed in Dhaka’s Hazibagh in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) described as shootout.
The incident was reported early on Monday (May 20) from Beribadh area in front of Modhu City Housing, said RAB.
The deceased have been identified as 46-year-old Monir and Gias.

According to RAB sources, a gang of hijackers hijacked a covered van carrying nine tonnes of tea of Ishpahani Tea Ltd from Srimangal five-six days ago.

“Acting on information that the hijackers would take the van to Old Dhaka, a team of RAB-2 set up a checkpost in front of Madhu City under Hazaribagh police. When the van was crossing the checkpost, the team challenged it when the hijackers opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back,” said RAB media spokesperson Mufti Mahmud Khan told Bangla Tribune.

“After the shootout, two bodies were found on the spot and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared them dead,” said Khan.

“A pistol and ammunition were seized from the spot,” he said.

“Two RAB personnel were also injured in the incident,” added the elite force spokesperson.
