Rasel Sraker was run over lost a leg after being run over by a Green Line bus in April last yearThe High Court has ordered Green Line Paribahan authorities to pay compensation to Rasel Sarker who lost a leg after one of the company’s buses ran over him in April last year.
The bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and KM Kamrul Kader gave the order on Wednesday (Apr 15), after the transport company failed to pay the full compensation despite the one-month deadline set by the court.
“You must pay the compensation. We know what steps to take if you don’t,” the court warned the authorities.
Earlier, the defendant had asked for more time to clear the compensation but the court turned the plea down saying, “You’re asking for more time without paying money? Aren’t you still in business? Do we need to appoint receivers?”
The court then ordered Green Line to implement the order by paying him at least part of the compensation by May 18 or 19 and fixed May 22 as the next hearing date.
On Apr 28 last year, a luxury Green Line coach rear-ended the car Rasel was driving. The accident occurred on the slope of Mayor Md Hanif Flyover in Dholaipar, and caused Rasel to step outside of his car to assess the damage.
Although he signalled the bus not to drive away, the driver, in his attempt to flee the scene, ran over Rasel, severing his left leg from the thigh down in the process.
After being informed, police impounded the bus and detained the driver from near the National Press Club.
